Our building

Greenwich Gardens has a communal lounge, restaurant, guest suite, hair salon, games room, library, cinema room, fitness room and a landscaped garden. There are lifts to all floors and level access throughout.

Your apartment

Your new apartment is unfurnished so you can make it your own. It has an open plan lounge and kitchen with oven/white goods, one or two double bedrooms and a level-access shower room.

Technology

There is free Wi-Fi in communal areas. Pull cords are fitted in every apartment, and we can provide assistive technology for extra safety and reassurance, which can be purchased at additional cost.

Rent or leasehold

Apartments are available to rent for one person or two people. You may be eligible for financial assistance towards your rent from Derby City Council. Leasehold apartments may also be available for private purchase from a current owner.

  • Close to village life – Mackworth village is a five minute walk or mobility scooter ride away.
  • Derby city centre is only 10 minutes by car or taxi, or 15-20 minutes by bus.
  • GP surgery within a five minute walk.
  • Railway and bus station in Derby.
  • Royal Derby Hospital is only 10 minutes away and all emergency services are close.
  • Large supermarkets within a 10 minute drive, some of which offer delivery.
  • Dial-a-Ride and low cost local taxis make journeys easy.

    We regularly have special menus to celebrate special occasions throughout the year and our Taste restaurant has a food hygiene rating of 5 from the Food Standards Agency.

  • How much does it cost?

    Prices vary depending on the apartment type and location within the building, so please view our price list for full details.

    As well as your rent or leasehold costs, you will need to pay:

    • A peace of mind charge for your 24-hour pull cord alert system
    • A service charge, which covers your heating and water usage, maintenance costs and utilities charges for the communal areas and gardens, and buildings insurance for leasehold properties
    • Fees for any care and support or domestic services you require, which may be paid for by Derby City Council, if you have had your needs assessed and approved by the adult social care team

    You will also be responsible for paying for council tax (band A or B), electricity usage, TV licence (if applicable) and any additional television package, telephone and line rental, internet and contents insurance.

    Meals, snacks and drinks in our Taste restaurant, and overnight stays in our guest suite for visitors are all charged separately.

Applying

Am I eligible?
 

To be eligible to live at Greenwich Gardens, you must:

  • Be aged 55 or over, or have long-term care needs
  • Reside in, or have a family connection to, the local area
  • Meet Derby City Council’s housing criteria

We aim to offer a lively atmosphere and mixed community of people who have a range of care needs.

You do not need to have any immediate care or support needs when you apply, but our kind and caring staff can support you if anything changes.

Greenwich Gardens may not be suitable if you require a substantial amount of regular nursing care.

How do I apply?
 

  1. Contact us for an application form, or contact Derby City Council’s adult social care team.
  2. We’ll arrange for you to visit and meet us.
  3. We’ll help you to complete a housing assessment and affordability form, as you may be eligible for financial assistance towards your rent and part of your service charge.
  4. While you're here, the onsite care provider may assess if you would benefit from their care and support services and arrange to visit you at home to discuss your needs. For your care to be funded by Derby City Council, you must have had your needs assessed and approved by the adult social care team.
