Sanctuary Supported Living's St John's House has been shortlisted for the Inside Housing Development Awards
A supported housing service for people with physical disabilities in Streatham has been named as a finalist at a national industry awards.
St John’s House, a newly redeveloped service run by Sanctuary Supported Living, which will offer long-term supported accommodation and support for adults with a range of physical disabilities, has been shortlisted in the national Inside Housing Development Awards 2024, in the ‘Best Healthy Homes Development’ category.
The award focuses on the impact that good quality housing has on mental and physical health, with St John’s House being recognised as an example of a sustainable development which will support residents’ health and wellbeing, and provide a home where they can thrive.
Following an investment of almost £4million pounds by Sanctuary, the previous care home building was remodelled into 14 modern self-contained flats, with additional communal areas and built-in assistive technology. Due to open later this year, the new service will provide a fully accessible home which meets the physical needs of residents – many of whom are wheelchair users – and will enable them to live as independently as possible.

Other parts of Sanctuary have also been recognised at the Inside Housing Development Awards, with Sanctuary Homes and Sanctuary Scotland being shortlisted across another four categories, including ‘Best Shared Ownership Development’ and ‘Best Affordable Housing Development’. The award winners will be announced at a ceremony on Friday 27 September in London.

As well as services for people with physical disabilities, Sanctuary Supported Living also provides accommodation with personalised support for people with learning disabilities, mental health needs, and homeless young people and adults, as well as retirement communities for people over 55 or with long-term care needs.
