Ready Steady Grow winners sow the seeds of gardening success

Sanctuary Supported Living’s Ready Steady Grow competition, hosted in partnership with Sanctuary’s Resident Engagement Team, has concluded. This year’s event showcased a range of garden transformations and highlighted the talents of residents across our supported living services and retirement communities. 

Introducing two exciting themes - “Keep Calm, Love Plants” and “Best Fruit and Veg Patch” -along with a new category for the “Tallest Sunflower,” the results celebrate the creativity, dedication, and collaborative effort of our participants. 

The competition was fierce, but the winners of the Ready Steady Grow gardening event have now been announced, following a public vote.

Winners

Keep Calm, Love Plants 

  • A £200 B&Q voucher was awarded to winner, Halton Road, for transforming an overgrown space into a vibrant community garden. 

  • A £100 B&Q voucher was awarded to runner-up, Dashwood House, for creating a calming and inviting outdoor space. 

Best Fruit and Veg Patch 

  • A £200 B&Q voucher was awarded to winner, Bransby Court, for reviving a neglected area with a successful recycling theme. 

  • A £100 B&Q voucher was awarded to runner-up, Station Road, for a sustainable garden brimming with colourful vegetables. 

Tallest Sunflower 

  • A £50 B&Q voucher was awarded to winner, Kath Knox, a resident at Rose Manor for growing an impressive sunflower reaching 6ft 2 inches. 

Spot Prizes 

  • £30 B&Q vouchers were awarded to retirement communities, Baskeyfield House and Poplar House by Sanctuary’s Resident Advisory Panel for £30 Jean McDonnell, Chair of the Panel, praised Poplar House for maintaining their gardens through challenging weather and Baskeyfield House for the evident care and passion shown in their plants.

All winners and runners-up have been contacted and have received their certificates, trophies, and vouchers.

Resident Engagement Officer, Sue Nutter, said: “Wow! What another great year for Ready Steady Grow. This year’s refreshed competition has once again demonstrated how gardening can uplift mental health and strengthen community bonds. From stunning sunflowers to vibrant veggie patches, we received the most entries we’ve ever had, and it’s been a joy to see so many services get involved and showcase their creativity. Congratulations to all the winners and participants for making this year’s competition a blooming success!”
